The strike Irish clearly show Riverdance involves a section titled The Countess Cathleen, which was initially a story by William Butler Yeats published in 1893.

This legendary tale of Countess Cathleen (aka Kathleen) starts with Irish peasants starving to demise through a famine. Demons have descended upon the determined poor trying to get them to sell their souls to the Devil in trade for gold to acquire food stuff. The rich Countess Cathleen attempts to help the peasants by selling off her riches to purchase food and finish the hunger.
