Helping hungry families has never been so easy, with St. Helena High School students placing food collection barrels around town.
The school’s Interact Club is overseeing the project for the second straight year. Look for barrels starting this week at 15 sites, including the Carnegie Building, Cameo Cinema, Central Valley, the library, the Boys & Girls Club, and all four public schools.
Students will collect food from the barrels and donate it to the St. Helena Community Food Pantry.
“Last year was a lot of fun, but hopefully it will grow more,” said Hartleigh Demchuk, community outreach officer for the Interact Club.
Teacher Jason Kelperis, who sponsors the Interact Club, said last year’s effort was just a “prototype.”
“We’re hoping it gains momentum,” he said.
